Effects of the Knowledge Management Program on Professional Nursing Care for Preterm Labour Inhibition at a Tertiary Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research is a quasi-experimental study which aims to examine 1) the situation of preterm labour inhibition, 2) the result from professional nursing care for preterm labour inhibition, and 3) compare patient safety outcomes regarding the effects of a knowledge management program on professional nursing care for preterm labour inhibition, before and after joining the program. The study involved a sample of 15 RNs, randomly selected at the hospital who had worked there for at least one year. The research tool was the knowledge management program on professional nursing care for preterm labour inhibition at a tertiary hospital, the data recording form and a nursing knowledge and practice test for preterm labour inhibition with the reliability Cronbach’s alpha coefficient at .95. Data were collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and Chi-square test.
The results show the comparison of the results before and after the experiment that 1) The rate of preterm labour decreased from 21.62 percent to 8.11 percent, 2) Non-complication situation from the administration of preterm labour-inhibiting control drugs increased from 72.97% to 91.89%. Patient outcomes improved on target, as well. It is related to the results of nursing efficiency of preterm labour administration of inhibiting drugs which increased with statistical significance (p < .01, p < .001) after using the knowledge management.
This research indicates that the developed knowledge management program on professional nursing care for preterm labour inhibition can be positively used to improve the nursing efficiency of preterm labour administration of the inhibiting drugs to support the safety of preterm labour inhibition.
