Main Article Content
Abstract
This descriptive research aimed to study the relationship between knowledge, attitude, perceived benefits and obstacles of waste separation, and waste separation behavior among nursing students at Prachomklao College of Nursing, Phetchaburi Province. The samples were 206 nursing students including the first to fourth-year nursing students in the bachelor of nursing science program in the academic year 2020. Who were selected with simple random sampling and sampling without replacement. Data were collected by knowledge which has a Kuder-Richardson confidence value of 20 equal to .78, attitude, perceived benefits, obstacles of waste separation, and waste separation behavior predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors with Cronbach’s alpha reliability at .75, .89, .81, และ .90 respectively. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, and Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient.
The results showed that Nursing students had moderate knowledge of waste separation and obstacles in waste separation (M = 9.19, 2.81; SD = 1.95, .49). Attitude, perceived benefits, and waste separation behavior were at a high level (M = 3.49, 3.61, 3.15; SD = .37, .43, .43). Attitudes, perceived benefits, knowledge were positively correlated with waste separation behaviors of nursing students. Perceived obstacles in waste separation were negatively correlated with waste separation behaviors of nursing students with a statistically significant at the .05 level (r = .57, .57, .21, -.21), respectively.
Based on these results suggest that college administrators should review policy regarding waste separation by campaigning for waste reduction, reducing the use of materials that cause pollution, and campaigning for reusing used items.
