Abstract

During the pandemic of COVID-19, the confirmed cases are continuously increased so that it is necessary to promote how to avoid the disease along with hygienic practices to prevent the spread of coronavirus amongst people, especially mothers in lactation period who are considered as patients under investigation since many of them frequently become excessively anxious, along with lacking of accurate information, to the infection through breastfeeding then decide to give up so that the decision affects child development and the babies’ immune system, as well as the citizens’ quality of life in long term despite the fact that breastfeeding is a natural way to pass down the mothers’ immunes to the infant, help the babies’ growth and development process, and build up a positive relationship between mother and child, which seems much beneficial if the activity is compared with breast-milk spreading the risk that has no vividly-proven evidence.

Therefore, nurses should play an important role to encourage the patient under investigation (PUI) mothers, even the COVID-19 infected ones to continue feeding the babies by their own milk by informing empirical evidence and giving a chance of participation, in tandem with appropriate provision of risk management of breastfeeding infection in order to support the lactation-periodic mothers to successfully feed their infants during the current situation.
