The Study of Post-Surgical Complications, Pain Levels, Length of Stay, and Hospitalization Costs of Post-Abdominal Surgery Patients, Singburi Hospital

Abstract
A retrospective study examined post-surgical complications, pain levels, the length of stay and hospital costs of post-operative patients. The data were collected from 220 patients with exploratory laparotomy for abdominal surgery at Singburi Hospital. The patient records were taken from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019. Data collection instruments include the record of patients’ complications and quantitative results of patients after abdominal surgery. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical data.
The results on patients’ complications showed that there were four cases of respiratory tract infections (1.82%) that occurred on the fifth day after surgery, one case in a circulatory system (0.50%) that occurred on the third day after surgery, eight cases of gastrointestinal disorders (3.70%) on the first day after surgery, and 14 cases of skin and muscle disorders (6.40%) on the fifth day after surgery. The quantitative result of post-abdominal surgery patients showed that on the first day after surgery, the average pain score was at 5.88, and on the second day after surgery, the average pain score of was at 2.98. The average length of the stay was 13.92 days and the average cost of hospitalization was 71,839.29 Baht per person.
The result of this research suggests that a system of care for postoperative abdominal surgery patients should be developed. This should aim to reduce the length of stay and the cost of hospitalization for abdominal surgery patients.
