Self - Care Behaviors of Patients with Uncontrolled DM at Bangkaewnai Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, La-Un district, Ranong Province

Abstract

The objectives of this Cross-sectional Survey Research were to study self - care behaviors of patients with uncontrolled DM and the relationship between personal factors include sex, age, marriage status, education, occupation, income, duration of having disease, BMI, HbA1C value and knowledge about DM with the self - care behaviors of patients with uncontrolled DM of Bangkaewnai Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital  in La-Un district, Ranong Province. A sample was all 54 patients with uncontrolled DM, having HbA1C value more 7% In the year 2018 and live in moo 1-3 Bangkaewnai Sub-district. Data were collected between March-May 2018. The instrument’s content validity was evaluated by 3 experts and I-CVI ranged from 0.67-1.0. A reliability of the instrument was tested, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.76. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and chi-square test and Pearson’s correlation Coefficient was used for examining the differences.

          Results showed that the overview of patients’ Self - Care Behaviors with was at high level (µ=2.43, S.D.=0.60). Sex, occupation, and knowledge about DM had a relationship with self - care behaviors of patients with uncontrolled DM significantly (p-value < .05) but other variables were unrelated.

          Public health services should organize a group meeting for exchange knowledge, experiences and health care behavior of patients with uncontrolled DM. The emerged discussions can be used to modify appropriate self - care behaviors and medication management for Individual DM patient in term of receiving a proper diet and medication according to the treatment plan.
