Objectives: The aims of this research were to study the community’s adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures and its related factors among people living in semi-urban communities, Chiang Mai province.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 427 samples from November to December 2021. Samples were randomly selected from the civil registration database. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression were performed to analyze the data.
Results: The overall prevalence of good adherence towards the COVID-19 preventive measures was 54.8%. Wearing a face mask when going out had the highest level of compliance (83.8%), followed by washing hands frequently after touching surfaces in public spaces (72.6%), and maintaining a distance of at least 1-2 meters from other people (64.2%). Level of education, wage workers, receiving information regarding COVID-19 through traditional media such as television and radio, favorable attitude towards COVID-19 and preventive measures, and perceived risk of COVID-19 infection were found to be significantly associated with good adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures.
Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that interventions aimed at changing people’s risk perception and attitude towards COVID-19 preventive measures need to be urgently implemented. Accurate information about COVID-19 should also be provided to the community via television and radio. This will help community residents in adopting more preventive measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
