Effects of Learning through Reflective Practices on Reflective Behaviors of Nursing Students

This quasi-experimental study aimed to: 1)  compare reflective behaviors of nursing students before and after ateending learning process using reflection and 2) to investigate nursing students’ opinions regarding writing lessons learned from practicing. Samples were 40 nursing students in the 2^nd year of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Ratchaburi enrolled in the Practicum Nursing Care of Persons with Health Problems 1 course and were practicing in Male Othopedic Ward, Ratchaburi Hospital in the academic year 2016. The instruments were composed of reflective lesson plan, reflective behavioral evaluation form, and opinion survey about writing lessons learned from practicing. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and paired t-test.

The results of the study showed that after completing the reflective learning class, mean scores of reflective behaviors of nursing students were siginificantly higher than those before class p<0.05). Mean score of opinion regarding benefits of writing lessons learned from practicing was in the moderate level. For the obstacles of writing lessons learned from practicing, mean scores were at moderate level. Researcher suggested that educational institutions should support to have reflective teaching and learning throughout nursing courses to promote rational analytical thinking and linking knowledge gained from theories with practices.
