Abstract

This descriptive cross -sectional study aimed to explore burnout syndrome and resilience, as well as the relationship between these two variables in Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute personnel.

The sample group consisted of 372 personnel from Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute, which were divided into medical staff and back-office staff. Data was collected via online assessments using the following research instruments: 1) a personal information questionnaire; 2) the Maslach burnout inventory (MBI) -Thai version, which was validated by three experts. Reliability test revealed Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.8; 3) the Thai resilience assessment from Department of Mental Health. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and associations between variables were examined using the chi-square test with SPSS.

The study results showed that: 1) the levels of burnout were mostly low in emotional exhaustion aspect (40.6%) and depersonalization aspect (51.34%), but high in personal accomplishment aspect (87.63%). Regarding resilience, most of the personnel had an overall resilience level above normal (76.08%); emotional stability, self-motivation, and problem management were within the normal range (59.68%, 66.94%, and 75.27%, respectively) 2) resilience was statistically significantly correlated with burnout syndrome in all aspects at the 0.05 level.

This study found that burnout syndrome is related to resilience significantly. Therefore, programs that can enhance and improve personnel’s resilience, may contribute to promoting quality of life for personnel individually and enhance the overall organizational standards.
