Abstract

The objectives of this study were to assess and compare work happiness and needs for workplace happiness promotion activities among academic and support personnel of Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University. Research participants were 200 academic staff and 237 support staff. Simple random sampling was used to select participants. Data were collected using an online questionnaire comprising a personal information questionnaire, a self- assessment happy workplace questionnaire, and a questionnaire on the need for well-being promotion activities. Descriptive statistics and independent t-tests were used to analyze data.

The research findings revealed that: 1) Academic and support staff had a high average overall happiness level across nine areas (equation = 4. 34, SD = ± 0. 70 and equation = 4. 23, SD = ± 0. 67, respectively). When examined by dimension, the highest mean score for academic staff was in having a good family (equation = 4.50, SD = ±0.60), while for supporting staff it was in managing money wisely (equation = 4.36, SD = ±0.61). Conversely, the lowest mean score for both groups was in having good health (equation = 3.76, SD = ±0.76 and x = 3.74, SD = ±0.73). A comparison of happiness at work between academic and supporting staff indicated a statistically significant difference, with academic staff reporting a higher overall mean score than supporting staff (equation = 4.34, SD = ±0.70 and equation= 4. 23, SD = ± 0. 67; t = 2. 170, p < 0. 05) ; and 2) Both academic and supporting staff expressed a high level of need for workplace happiness promotion activities (equation = 4.34, SD = ±0.70 and equation = 4.23, SD = ±0.67, respectively). The mean scores of all specific activities were rated at a high level of need. No significant differences were found between the two groups in their overall and specific needs for workplace happiness activities, except in the dimension of knowledgeseeking activities, where academic staff reported a significantly higher need than supporting staff (t = 2.674, p < .01).
