Abstract

Introduction: Triage in the emergency department is a critical process for prioritizing patients based on the urgency of their conditions to provide the most effective and safest care for those with the most severe symptoms. Effective and rapid triage can reduce the risk of complications or death in emergency patients. Traditional triage methods involve assessment by experienced nurses who rely on clinical observation and judgment, but errors may occur due to factors such as fatigue or external influences. The integration of mobile applications for triage can enhance the accuracy of assessments. These applications assist nurses in managing data and making quick and precise decisions, thereby reducing errors and improving patient safety.

Objective: To compare the accuracy of triaging emergency and accident patients between traditional triage methods and those using a mobile application. To assess the satisfaction of nurses with the use of the mobile application for triage.

Research Methodology: This research is a quasi-experimental study. The sample group of nurses was divided into two groups: a control group using traditional triage and an experimental group using the mobile application for triage, with 15 participants in each group. The patients involved in the study numbered 738. Data collection occurred from January 24 to April 21, 2024.Research Tools: The traditional triage criteria for emergency and accident patients. The triage criteria for emergency and accident patients using the mobile application.

Data Analysis: Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, were used to analyze general information about the sample group and nurse satisfaction. The accuracy of triage between the traditional method and the mobile application method was compared using the chi-square statistic.

Research Results: The accuracy of triaging emergency and accident patients using the mobile application was 76.83%, compared to 67.61% with the traditional method, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). Additionally, the satisfaction of nurses using the mobile application for triage was rated as high, with a mean score of 4.23 and a standard deviation of 0.68.
