Abstract

Nursing organizations must consider setting key indicators that reflect organizational management results, to raise nursing service quality to be excellent, and to be monitored and evaluated by executives. This participation action research aimed to 1) develop an information system for reporting and monitoring key performance nursing indicators 2) study the opinions of nurse administrators and informatics ward nurse (ITWN)  on efficiency of the developed information system for reporting and monitoring key performance nursing indicators, and 3) evaluate satisfaction of nurse administrators and informatics ward nurse (ITWN) towards the developed information system for reporting and monitoring key performance nursing indicators. It employed two spirals of four-stage action research; comprising planning, action, observation and reflection; from January to June 2022.

Sample consisted of two groups: the key informant group, which comprised 40 nurse administrators; and the co-researcher group, that consisted of 53 ITWN from 21 nursing departments of a university hospital. The research instruments were a meeting record form, an In-depth interview form, a questionnaire for opinions on the efficiency of the system, and a satisfaction measurement with the use of the system. These instruments were verified for content validity by experts. Reliability test revealed that Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the questionnaire for opinions on the efficiency of the system and the satisfaction measurement with the use of the system were 0.95 and 0.97, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, content analysis, and categorization.

The study results showed that the developed information system for reporting and monitoring key performance nursing indicators was online and reported results in a timely manner. The overall opinions on efficiency and satisfaction with using the system of nurse administrators and ITWN were at high levels ( gif.latex?\bar{x}=4.35, SD=0.498 and gif.latex?\bar{x}=4.32, SD=0.512), respectively. The research results suggested that information system for reporting and monitoring key performance nursing indicators developed from this research should be disseminated and linked with other departments within the hospital or at the faculty level, to maximize benefit from sharing information.
