Abstract

This descriptive study which aimed to explore the need and need responses of emergency postoperative abdominal surgery patients and their families. Eighty emergency postoperative abdominal surgery patients and 80 family members were recruited from surgery ward at Savannakhet hospital, Lao’s PDR by interview. Descriptive statistics with frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and content analysis were applied to analyze data. The results showed that: 1) mean scores of the patients and families’ needs were in high level (equation = 3.39, SD = 0.31, equation= 3.63, SD = 0.27) while the mean scores of received need respond were in low level (equation = 2.48, SD = 0.26, equation = 2.43, SD = 0.26). In conclusion, the study finding could be used for planning nursing
