Abstract

End stage leukemia is serious, life threatening disease and a major cause of death in children. This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of a supportive educative program on care behavior regarding
beginning to end stage leukemic 6-13 year old school age children’s 10 dependent care agents. They received
a supportive educative program based on Orem’s self-care theory. The program was comprised of three learning
packages and caring skills training. The results of this study revealed that 1) The degree of mean score on care
behavior of children’s dependent care agents was increased from a moderate (x=82.10, SD=11.17) to high level
(x=113.90, SD=7.14) 2) The mean score on care behavior of children’s dependent care agents after intervention
was significantly higher than before intervention at the 0.01 level.
