Development of a model for caring for patients with acute myocardial infarction at Phon Thong Hospital, Roi Et Province

Abstract

Purposes : To study the situation regarding,develop and evaluate to assess the outcomes of developing the care model for patients with acute myocardial infarction at Phon Thong Hospital.

Study Design : Action Research.

Materials and Methods : The sample consisted of professional nurses working in the emergency room, female internal medicine building, and male internal medicine building, totaling 30 participants. The tools used for data collection included a general information questionnaire and an assessment of skills in caring for patients with ischemic heart disease. The study was conducted between October 2023 and April 2024. Descriptive data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. Qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis.

Main findings : 1) The skill level of the nurses in caring for patients with ischemic heart disease was found to be excellent. 2) The knowledge level regarding ischemic heart disease was also rated as excellent. 3) In terms of care evaluation, 66.67% of patients received thrombolytic therapy within 30 minutes, and the in-hospital mortality rate was 6.67%.

Conclusion and Recommendations: The developed care model for patients with acute myocardial infarction can be applied in all community hospitals to improve outcomes and meet care goals. It is recommended to enhance the professional development of nurses by providing specialized training in cardiovascular care. Continuous development of the care model should be encouraged through capacity-building initiatives, interdisciplinary collaboration, and promotion of preventive measures at the family and community levels.
