Self Care by Patients with Diabetes in the Regional Health Promotion Hospital Tambon Huai Mary Non Muang Sub -District Nonsang Distric Nonbualum Phu Province

Abstract

This cross sectional descriptive research aimed to study the personal characteristics along with the  effects of social support relating to self care by patients with diabetes in  the  regional health promoting hospital  Tumbon Huai Mary Non Muang Sub-District Nonsang –District Nongbualumphu Provice. The purpose of the study was to collect both quantitative and qualitative data and to achieve this sample were taken from 157 patients selected at random from within the 208 population. Focus group guidelines were used to collect data from a focus group of 12 careers who could provide extensive firsthand knowledge of the topics discussed. The interviews were examined and verified by three experts for content validity and reliability. In a pilot study conducted in Nongbualamphu Province March 9-31^st 2016, data from 30 samples was analyzed and the results showed that the Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient was at 0.89.The data distribution was conducted using descriptive statistics including percentage, mean, and standard deviation, median, minimum and maximum. The Inferential statistics used were Pearson product moment correlation and Stepwise multiple linear regressions.

Further results showed that the social support and self care by patients with Diabetes were at a high level with averages of 2.80(S.D. = 0.28) and 2.72(S.D. = 0.17)respectively. The Social support variable had a high positive relationship with self care by patients (r = 0.881, p value < 0.001). Social support: Community support, family support, support of the Health service and the personal independent variables are the four variables which can predict the heath of 78.1 percent self care Diabetic patients. The most common problems identified as a result of the study were related to Social and Community support.
