The effectiveness of project of Flies controlling by Community participation, Phu Ruea district, Loei Province

Abstract

This research was an action research aiming to increase the fluctuation of flies in Phu Ruea District, Loei Province The result showed that;

The Flies breeding grounds were 1)The storerooms of chicken manure fertilizer of suppliers 2)Farmers’ chicken manure fertilizer piles at Dragon food farm 3)The chicken manure fertilizer on the base of Dragon Fruit cane and 4)The food scraps and waste water from fresh food markets, food stall, and households.

The flies control measures which include the control of flies breeding grounds and the elimination of adult ; the researchers found the methods to control flies breeding grounds and to eliminate adult as following; 1)To organize the sites as to prevent flies from breeding was to organize the storerooms of chicken manure fertilizer of suppliers, farmers’ chicken manure fertilizer piles, and chicken manure fertilizer on the base of Dragon Fruit cane to prevent flies from breeding on them. and 2)To produce Fly Glue Traps from liquid latex rubber in order to eliminate fully - grown flies and carrying out the process of flies control with the participation of the government sectors, local administration, and people.

The evaluations of the fluctuation of flies with pre and post operation show that ; The number of flies was decreased from pre operation  with the level of statistical significance at 0.001. Moreover, the evaluation of the level of community participation reveals that the involved sectors and people had participated in all procedures. It was recommended that the measures should be carried out continuously and to also put legal measures in place.

The evaluation of the project showed that the established measures of flies control  was suitable for the context of the area. They could be used to reduce the number of flies in the community. However, the measures have to be carry out continuously in every town.  Additionally, the additional enforcement of legal measures might raise the level of efficiency.
