The Development of a Nursing Management Model in the Situation of the COVID -19 Outbreak for the Hospitals in Nakhon Phanom Province

Abstract

The situation of the COVID -19 outbreak is one of challenges for nursing management to be suitable in hospitals at Nakhon Phanom Province. This research aims to develop and evaluate the outcomes of the nursing administration model during the COVID -19 pandemic in all 14 hospitals in Nakhonphanom province. There were three phases: situation analysis, development and trial of the model, and model evaluation. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected. Participants were 39 nursing leaders, 144 infectious control nurses, and 433 operational nurses. The instruments were nursing management readiness assessment, a question set for a focus group discussion, and the open-ended questionnaire asked for opinions of executives and practitioners. After three months of implementing the guideline, evaluated success by assessing the willingness of nurses who provide frontline nursing care. Data were analysed using a generalized linear model and content analysis. The results revealed that 14 hospitals used a guideline which periodically provided by the Ministry of Public Health. The content in developmental guideline for use in every hospital contains nursing care in the pre-emergence, during, and post-emergence stages and also developed the 11 of the nursing care plans. Before the guideline was issued, 88% of nurses reported that in the hospital had nursing care guideline. After using the nursing management guideline, 94% said they were willing to provide frontline services. Factors related to their willingness were nurses who had used the manual in two times (PR = 2.13, 95% CI =1.92-2.36) and nurses were more volunteered to work at the frontline (PR = 1.09, 95% CI = 1.02-1.17). An increasingly number of nurses willing to do frontline work which may be a result of the developed guideline.
