Empowerment in Chronic Schizophrenia Patients: Nursing Roles

Abstract

Patients with schizophrenia have impaired thinking, perception, emotion, decision-making and behavior, which affects the patient, his family and society. Most chronic schizophrenia manifests themselves in an isolated manner, lack of interest in the surrounding society, sleepless, weak, discouraged, hopeless, powerless, lack of freedom to do things on their own and in a state of loss of power which patients are often not accepted by colleagues and others. Due to the incurable chronic illnesses, patients experience a significant loss of power and self-esteem, the problem can be solved by helping and empowering the patient by the psychiatric nurse, who is the key personnel for patient care. The purpose of this article is to present the empowerment for chronic schizophrenia patients. The content of the article presents information on chronic schizophrenia patients, the effects of chronic schizophrenia, mental empowerment, components of mental empowerment in chronic schizophrenia patients and the role of psychiatric nurses in enhancing the mental empowerment of patients with chronic schizophrenia.
