Knowledge Regarding to Delirium, Monitoring, and Management in Critical Ill Patients among Nurses at Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital

Delirium in critically Ill patients is common in the intensive care unit. The knowledge of nurses in the intensive care unit (ICU) regarding delirium is important but less to interest from nurse. This pilot study aimed to study the knowledge of nurses in adult ICU on delirium, monitoring, and management. The samples were 42 nurses in ICU. The research tool consisted of personal information and knowledge about delirium, monitoring and management in critical Ill patients. The results showed that: 1) scores were between 14 and 23 for knowledge (mean = 19.19, SD = 2.53); 2) monitoring (8–14, mean = 12.83, SD = 1.27); and 3) management (5-13, mean = 10.86, SD = 1.75). Nurses who experience more than 10 years in the ICU had a high level of knowledge (73.50%), monitoring (70.73%), and management (66.67%). The study was recommended that it should train nurses who were less experience of critical care about early recognition of delirium, monitoring, and management in ICU for standardized care outcomes.
