Abstract

Pain management in Thailand, there may be differences in context, area, and policy. There are also limited information on this issue. The objective of this cross sectional descriptive design was to identify barriers perceived as interfering with nurses’ (RNs) ability to provide optimal pain management. The samples were 218 professional nurses in Yasothon Hospital. The research instrument was a questionnaire for perceived barriers to pain management, 21 items (5 ratting). The results showed that 100% of the nurses were female, the mean age was 40.41 (SD ± 9.1). Most of them are the nursing staff, 49.8% had experience in caring for patients over 10 years. Of 36.9% was trained in short-term pain management program. The nurses perceived pain management was the importance for nurse. Perceived barriers to pain management with knowledge of pain assessment at moderate level, and nurses were concerned about patients with tolerance and addict and pain medication. Doctors treated pain management that was at a high level. Delays in pharmacists' processing of prescriptions and the delay in drug delivery from the dispensary department was moderate. The results of the research were found to improve quality of nursing care in pain management.
