Improving Knowledge, Assessment, and Skill Related to Pain Management in Clinical Practice of Health Promotion Practicum for the 2rd year Nursing Student

Abstract

The purposes of the study to improving knowledge with RAT Model for pain assessment and management in clinical practice of health promotion practicum for nursing students. The research design of this study was quasi-experimental research (one group pretest–posttest design). The samples were 2nd years student nurses 149 samples of 2017 academic year. The research tools were: 1) RAT Model; 1.1) recognize, 1.2) assess and 1.3) treat, 2) case study and 3) the knowledge of pain assessment and management 25 questions; 15 true-false and 10 multiple choice. The content validity from 3 experts was 8.2. Values of reliability were included .89 for KR20, 53 for p, and .42 for r. Data analysis included descriptive statistic and pair t-test for mean comparison. The results of this study showed that the samples were between the ages of 19 to 24 years (mean= 20.32, SD=1.53). Moreover, mean scores for knowledge of pain assessment and management were 13.10 (SD=1.86) before treatment and 20.97 (SD=1.75) after treatment. Rates of passing mean score were 82.87 % before treatment and 100 % after treatment. Comparing mean scores for knowledge of pain assessment and management between before and after treatment, it was significant at .01. Therefore, RAT Model can be used for method of pain assessment and management. It was guidelines on develop planning and nursing care for patient who has pain, to be effective on nursing.
