Abstract

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is a common injury among athletes. This quasi-experimental study with a one-group repeated-measures design aimed to examine the effects of a case management program on readiness and functional ability among patients who underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. The sample consisted of 33 patients who underwent ACL reconstruction surgery between March and June 2025. The research instruments comprised: 1) a case management program consisting of seven steps, from the preoperative phase through six weeks post-discharge, with assessments conducted at three time points: preoperatively, and at four- and six-weeks post-discharge; 2) a personal data record form; 3) a readiness for activity questionnaire; and 4) a functional ability questionnaire. Questionnaires 3 and 4 demonstrated Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficients of .88 and .91, respectively. Data were analyzed using one-way repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results revealed that the mean readiness scores at six weeks post-intervention were significantly higher than at pre-intervention (F=4.295, p<.05). Furthermore, the mean functional ability scores at four- and six-weeks post-intervention were significantly higher than at pre-intervention (F=8.830, p< .001). The developed case management program effectively enhanced both readiness and functional ability among patients who underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. It is recommended that healthcare facilities adopt this program as a standard practice guideline.
