Factors predicting academic achievement in nursing for older adults course among nursing students, a university in the northern region

Nursing science is a profession involving direct care toward health and life. Nursing learning and teaching aims to enhance learners’ knowledge and to apply theoretical knowledge to quality nursing practice. The purpose of this correlational study was to investigate the factors that predict academic achievement in Nursing for older adults course among 116 nursing students in a university in the Northern Region. Data were collected using the Demographic questionnaire and the Questionnaire regarding factors related to learning academic achievement in Nursing for Older Adults course, consisting of 3 factors: learner factors, teaching factors, and environmental factors. The questionnaire was examined by 3 experts, with an indexes of item-objective congruence of 0.93, and tested using Cronbach's alpha coefficient formula, with a reliability of 0.86. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression analysis (n=116, α=.05). The result showed the significant equation (R = .197, R² = .039, Adjusted R²=.031, F(2,451)= 4.058, p=.045). It was also found that learner factors had a statistically significant influence on academic achievement (B=2.598, SE=1.208, β=.197, t=2.150, p=.034). Therefore, learning skills focusing on student-centered teaching strategies can would improve enhance academic achievement.
