Abstract

Kyphosis is a common disorder in the elderly. The condition likely affects several aspects of the individuals including restricted pulmonary functions, induced back pain, and reduced mobility that affect endurance, activities in daily living and quality of life, and increased risk of falls in the elderly. Therefore, a screening and monitoring method is important to promote effectiveness of treatments and to minimize possible consequences of kyphosis. Currently, kyphosis can be assessed using several methods both invasive and non-invasive techniques. These methods have distinct characteristics and limitations for clinical application. This article reviewed information relating kyphosis assessments in order to help readers for selecting an appropriate method of measurement.
