The incident and consequences of a mother's severe preeclampsia pregnancy at Krabi Hospital

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the incident and consequences of a mother's severe preeclampsia pregnancy at Krabi Hospital. The sample group is a medical record of mother's severe preeclampsia among October 1,2022 to March 31,2024. More than 28 weeks of gestation and recorded in the Hosxp program. The data was collected using the group’s data recording form which was verified by 3 qualified people; check the accuracy of the content, clarity and sequence of the questions. The information obtained were updated according to the recommendations of the experts, then tested with the similar to the sample group. Reliability of the tools was tested using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient yielding values of 0.90 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive, frequency statistics, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson’ s Product Moment Correlation.


            Study results : 1)The incidence of mothers with severe preeclampsia is 3.54%, 50.9% aged 31-40 years old, 44.37% of 3th pregnancy, 55.3% gestational age 33-37 weeks, 81.6% more than 5 time, 51.3% BMI > 30kg/m2, 71.7% Caesarean section, 19.7% DM in pregnancy, 9.9% severe hypertension, 6.6% , 3.3% Asthma and 2.0% UTI


            2) The complication of mother's severe preeclampsia were 53.64%, 9.9% severe HT, 1.3% Eclampsia, 3.3% HELLP Syndrome, Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation(DIC), Pulmonary Edema and Asthma, 7.2% preterm labor, 2.0% post-partum hemorrhage, 4.6% abruptio placenta and 1.3% Acute Respiratory failure


            3) The complication of babies were 13.8% preterm birth, 3.3% IUGR and fetal hypoxia, 2.0% Still birth


            4) Factors associated with the most common complication of severe preeclampsia include the mother’s age, pregnancy, BMI and comorbidities were high level


            Conclusion: Severe preeclampsia is an obstetric emergency that has a serious impact on the mother and babies. Pre-monitoring and risk assessment are required to prevent serious complication.
