Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a health belief promotion program on relapse prevention behaviors in patients with acute myocardial infarction. The subjects were 48 patients with acute myocardial infarction after balloon angioplasty or stent implantation, selected by simple randomlization from the patient’s medical record. They were divided into experimental and control groups, with 24 subjects in each group. The tools were a health belief promotion program on recurrence prevention behaviors in patients with acute myocardial infarction, a personal information questionnaire, and a behavioral assessment form for the prevention of recurrence of acute myocardial infarction. Data were analyzed using descriptive and reference statistics.
The results of this study revealed that the mean score of relapse prevention behavior in patients with acute myocardial infarction after the program was higher than the pretest with a statistical significance. The experimental group had a statistically significant higher mean score for preventing the recurrence of acute myocardial infarction behaviors than the control group.
Suggestions obtained from this research long-term patient behavior should be monitored. To monitor the persistence of appropriate behavior and encourage families to participate in changing the patient’s appropriate behavior.
