Abstract

This quantitative predictive study was conducted to examine the relationships between personal factors, family relationship factors, institutional involvement and relationship factors, and institutional commitment among nursing students, as well as to identify significant predictors of institutional commitment. The sample consisted of 240 first- to fourth-year nursing students, who were selected using stratified random sampling. The research instruments included a personal characteristics questionnaire, a family relationship questionnaire, an institutional involvement and relationship questionnaire, and an institutional commitment questionnaire. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of the instruments were .90, .94, and .95, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation, Spearman’s rank correlation, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis.
The findings indicated that institutional commitment was significantly associated with gender, age, academic year, family relationships, and institutional involvement and relationships. However, cumulative grade point average was not found to be significantly related to institutional commitment. Logistic regression analysis revealed that family relationships (β = 1.003, p < .01) and institutional involvement and relationships (β = 3.132, p < .001) were significant predictors of institutional commitment among nursing students.
These findings reflected the importance of strengthening family relationships and promoting student involvement in institutional activities. The results could be utilized as a guideline for developing policies and activities aimed at enhancing sustainable institutional commitment among nursing students.
