Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the effects of exercise programs combined with social support on the balance of elderly people at home in the context of the Isan community. This research was a quasi-experimental, two-group, pre-post design. The sample size was calculated using the G* power program. The subjects were divided into two groups, 28 participants in each group. The experimental group received the exercise program with social support for 12 weeks. The results showed that after participating in the program, the experimental group spent less time on the 10-meter walk test (10MWT) than the control group, which was statistically significant (p<.05), However, there was no significant difference between the groups in the five-time sit to stand test (FTSST) and the time up and go test (TUGTT) (p<.05). In the TUGTT, FTSST, and 10MWT, the experimental group spent significantly less time after participating in the program (p<.05). This research shown that social support exercise programs in older adults can result in muscle strength in older adults. Improved balance ability, faster walking, and help prevent falls in the elderly.
