Abstract

This study was a quasi-experimental research aimed at comparing the functional abilities of patients with schizophrenia before and after receiving a skill-based psychoeducation program, as well as comparing the functional abilities between patients who received the skill-based psychoeducation program and those who received routine care. The participants were inpatients at Srithanya Hospital, with 16 individuals in each group, over a period of two weeks. The research instrument was a functional ability assessment, administered before the intervention and one month after the experiment. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution, mean, percentage, chi-square test, dependent t-test, and independent t-test. The findings revealed that the mean functional ability scores of patients with schizophrenia after the intervention differed between the experimental and control groups, and the mean functional ability scores of those receiving the program were significantly different from those receiving routine care at the .05 level. In conclusion, the skill-based psychoeducation program had a positive effect on improving the functional abilities of patients with schizophrenia. Continuous training and follow-up are recommended to ensure long-term benefits.
