Abstract

This descriptive study investigated mental health literacy, stress, and the relationship between mental health literacy and stress among village health volunteers (VHVs). The sample consisted of 381 village health volunteers, selected using simple random sampling and proportional random sampling. The research instruments included a personal data questionnaire, the VHV Mental Health Literacy Scale, and the Suan Prung Stress Test (SPST-20). The reliability of the instruments was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of 0.83 and 0.85, respectively. Descriptive statistics and Spearman’s correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data.
The results of the study found that 1) most village health volunteers had a very good level of mental health literacy (Mean=3.48, SD=1.57); 2) most village health volunteers had a moderate level of stress (Mean=31.90, SD=9.64); 3) mental health literacy had a moderate negative relationship with stress in village health volunteers with statistical significance at the .01 level (r = -.422, p<.01). The results of this research can be used to promote mental health literacy to reduce stress in village health volunteers.
