Predictors of Overweight Among Young Adults in Community Mueang District, Phayao Province

Abstract

 This predictive correlational research aimed to determine factors predicting the overweight among young adults within Community. Multi-stage random sampling was used to recruit 143 young adults, who meet the specified criteria, data collection was questionnaires, consists of the Health Belief questionnaire, the Social Support Questionnaire, the Personal Behavior Questionnaire and Overweight Assessment Form. The reliability was 0.94, 0.87, 0.95 and 0.95, respectively. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test and stepwise multiple regression statistics were performed to analyze the data.
The study revealed that young adulthood had overweight, BMI at the level of obesity level 1 at 44.10% (mean ± SD = 26.53 ± 3), Health Belief (mean ± SD = 3.70 ± 0.60). White rice consumption factors (ß = 0.363, p = .000), perceived barriers to preventing overweight (ß = 0.293, p = .000), and the Emotion Support (ß = 0.208, p = .009) could be explained the overweight 20.30% (R2 = .203, R2adj = .186, F = 11.832, (p<.001). Therefore, administrators should increase communication channels and provide exercise equipment in communities, and promote positive behaviors that encourage exercise.
