The Effectiveness of a Competency Development Program for Novice Nurses at an Emergency Department

This study was quasi-experimental research. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Novice Emergency Nurse competency development program at an Emergency Department. The sample population consisted of 15 emergency novice nurses, who were selected based on inclusion criteria. The study tools were a Novice Emergency Nurse program, and Evaluation Test of a Novice Emergency Nurse program. The study was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon signed rank test statistics. The result revealed that following training, the novices had higher levels of nursing knowledge competencies and Nursing Skill Competencies increased significantly at an Emergency Department at the .05 level.
