The Effects of a Stress Management Program on the Psychological Well – Being of Patients with Hemodialysis

This study was a quasi-experimental research using the pretest-posttest control group design. The sample comprised of 60 patients who were treat with hemodialysis at the unit in Veterans General Hospital. The sample was divided into experimental and control group by using simple random sampling. The experimental group received Stress Management Program, whereas, the control group received usual care. The research instruments consisted of demographic questionnaire, Ryff’ Scale of Psychological Well-Being (SPWB),and Suanprung Stress Test (SPST-20). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including frequency, mean, percentage and comparing mean score of psychological well-being using t-test
Result from Repeated ANOVA revealed that at the post - test and 2 week follow - up , the mean score of the psychological well-being of patients with hemodialysis in the experimental group was statistically significant higher than that of the control group at the 0.05 level (f=5.45, p < .05). In addition, results from t-test revealed mean score of psychological well-being of the experimental group at was statistically significant higher than those before receiving the program at .05
