Abstract

This quasi-experimental research has the objective of studying the result of developmental care on the spiritual health of the elderly before and after cataract surgery. The sample used a purposive sampling method to choose the elderly persons who came to receive cataract surgery at Pathum Thani Hospital, totaling 30 persons. The research tools were Guidelines in Developmental Care of Spiritual Health and the SelfSpiritual Health Care Assessment Test, which tested for confidence of another sample group with similar characteristics to this sample group, totaling 30 persons. The content validity index was .88, and Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient was .98. Data collection involved assessing spiritual healthcare before providing knowledge on spiritual healthcare, and then assessing spiritual healthcare one week after the operation. Data analysis and presentation with frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, and compared t-values. The research result found that the spiritual health care in the elderly was very good both before and after the cataract surgery. Comparative result of giving importance to meaning of life before and after cataract surgery from comparing t-values was different significantly (p<.05) and the comparative result in practical experience of meaning of life before and after cataract surgery from t-values was also significantly different (p<.05). The research result shows the developmental care of spiritual health care affects spiritual health care of the elderly both in giving the importance of the meaning of life and practical experience of the meaning of life after the surgery so there should be an application to the guidelines of spiritual health care in continual spiritual health care in the elderly persons.
