The Priority Needs for the Development of Competency of Village Health Volunteers in Food Consumption Promotion for the Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes in the Community

Abstract

 The Descriptive research was used to study the priority needs the development of village health volunteers’ competencies in promoting food consumption to prevent type 2 diabetes in the community. The sample consisted of 352 village health volunteers from a multi-stage random sampling, which was determined following the methods of Daniel and Cross. The research instrument was a dual response style questionnaire, and index of item objective congruence has item scores between 0.60-1.00, and reliability coefficients of questionnaire were 0.98-0.99. The data were examined using descriptive statistical methods, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and the prioritization of needs was determined by the Modified Priority Needs Index (PNImodified). The research findings indicated the primary requirements for enhancing the competencies of village health volunteers in promoting food consumption to prevent type 2 diabetes in the community. The first competency is knowledge, the second is skill, the third is motivation, the fourth is self-concept, and the fifth is traits. The PNImodified index values were 0.18, 0.17, 0.12, 0.11, and 0.10, respectively.
