Abstract

This quasi-experimental study, utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design, aimed to evaluate the effects of a competency enhancement program on the prevention of emerging infectious diseases among village health volunteers. The study sample was composed of village health volunteers selected from provinces in which 60 sample of sub-district hospitals had been transferred to the Provincial Administrative Organization. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire designed to assess knowledge, attitudes, and work behaviors, with content validity indices of 0.796 and 0.913 respectively. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentages, mean, and standard deviation, were employed for data analysis. A paired t-test was conducted to evaluate pre-and post-intervention differences.
The findings revealed a statistically significant increase in the mean score for knowledge, attitudes, and work behaviors following the intervention (p<.05). Specifically, the mean score and standard deviations for knowledge, attitudes, and work behaviors showed marked improvement after the program. These results suggest that the competency enhancement program is effective in improving outcomes related to the prevention of emerging infectious diseases among village health volunteers. It is recommended that the program be implemented as part of broader efforts to prevent emerging diseases and to support the competency development of village health volunteers, particularly in disease prevention.
