Abstract

This one-group, pretest-posttest quasi-experimental research aimed to examine the effects of an enhancing self-efficacy program for caregivers of at-risk pressure ulcer patients. The sample group comprised 27 caregivers who purposively selected and received the program. Research tools were 1) an enhancing self-efficacy program, 2) knowledge and capabilities assessment questionnaires for caregivers, 3) capabilities assessment questionnaires for caregivers, and 4) a pressure ulcer assessment tool. Data were analyzed using descriptive and repeated measures analysis of variance.
The results revealed that the average scores of knowledge and ability in caring for at-risk pressure ulcer patients increased significantly after receiving the program (p-value < .001). The incidence of pressure ulcers among high-risk patients decreased after receiving the program compared to before, but this difference was not statistically significant. These findings demonstrate that the enhancing self-efficacy program effectively enhances caregivers’ knowledge and capabilities to care for at-risk pressure ulcer patients.
