This descriptive research aims to analyze the cost of nursing activities for patients with stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis in a tertiary hospital. The target population consisted of cost reports for 13 cases from all nursing personnel, while the sample group comprised nursing cost reports for 30 cases of stage 5 chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. They were selected through purposive sampling. Three research instruments were employed: 1) a dictionary of four main nursing activities; 2) records of nursing activity cost; and 3) cost per unit records. The content validity index (CVI) was rated at 1 while the observation reliability was rated at 0.81. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, including numbers, percentages, means, and standard deviations.
The study found that 1) The total cost of nursing activities was 72,276.26 Baht, with the highest cost for admission activities at 52,724.62 Baht (72.94 percent), followed by the cost for activities during hemodialysis at 11,948.75 Baht (16.53 percent). 2) Regarding per-activity cost, the admission activity cost was 195.28 Baht. 3) The highest per-case cost of nursing activities for patients with stage 5 chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis was 2,409.21 Baht. The study results indicate that nursing administrators require empirical data on high service costs, which is new, in managing cost, time, and manpower, and materials. Technology should be utilized for scheduling and maintaining nursing records to ensure efficient management of nursing activities for chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis (optimizing cost savings for maximum benefit).
