Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the component of the charge nurse competencies at a university hospital. The participants (n = 514) were randomly selected using simple random from charge nurse who had experiences at least one year in an inpatient ward. The research instrument were sets questionnaire of charge nurse competency in University Hospital with a content validity value of 0.84 and a reliability value of 0.94. There is a method for collecting data. Through the research coordinator the objectives of the research were explained. Method of data collection and give knowledge To access the sample, the person responsible for distributing questionnaires and receiving them back from the sample group. The Data was used for data collection and analyzed using Varimax method for component analysis, principal factor extraction and orthogonal factor rotation. The results of the analysis of competency components of charge nurses at University Hospital included 3 components, and 30 indicators with cumulative of variance acconnted for 62.761%, 1) Leaderships and quality management 14 indicators with standardized factor loading ranking from 0.461-0.744. 2) Regarding work skills required in the 21st century had 10 indicators with standardized factor loading ranking from 0.465- 0.768. and 3) Nursing practice and professional ethics had 10 indicators with standardized factor loading ranking from 0.569 – 0.783. It is suggested to use the results of research on competency in areas that have a low average level of importance, namely the ability to research and develop innovations. and the use of foreign languages as a guideline for developing the competencies of shift supervisor nurses so that shift supervisor nurses can perform their duties efficiently collection and analyzed using Varimax method for component analysis, principal factor extraction and orthogonal factor rotation.
