Developing a Learning Promotion Program for Risk Management and Maternal Safety for Nursing Students of St. Teresa International University

Abstract

This research and development aims to 1) study nursing students’ knowledge, awareness and nursing practice regarding risk management and maternal safety were studied and analyzed with 48 nursing students in the 4th year of section 1. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. Its reliability was tested using Cronbach’s alpha. 2) develop a learning promotion program for risk management and maternal safety for nursing students. The program was confirmed by three experts. 3) study the effectiveness of the program. The sample group was 49 nursing students in the 4th year of Section 2, and 4) evaluate the effectiveness of the program. The sample group was practical supervision teachers. specific random was used for 5 peoples. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. Reliability of the questionnaire was tested using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, yielding a value of .86. The data was analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and Paired t-test. The study results revealed as follows.
1. The overall knowledge about risk management and maternal safety was at a moderate level ( = 0.78, S.D.=0.07). As for awareness and nursing practice about risk management and maternal safety, students overall were at a high level (x̅ = 4.05, S.D. = 0.36) and (x̅ = 4.28, S.D. = 0.98)
2. The learning promotion program about risk management and maternal safety for nursing students in St. Teresa International University consists of 3 steps including before practice, practice and after practice
3) After participating in the program, compared to before joining the program, students’ scores in knowledge, awareness in risk management and maternal safety care significantly increased (p<.001) and nursing practice significantly increased (p<.01). And the incidence rate decreased.
4) Overall the effectiveness of the program was at a highest level (x̅ = 4.48, S.D. = 0.50)
