The Enhancement of Attitudes among High School Students in Caring for the Elderly at Home in Pathumthani Province

This quasi-experimental research purposed to study the attitudes of high school students towards elderly, to compare the attitudes between groups with elderly in their home and without elderly and compare the attitudes of students before and after participating in the attitude-building program. The sample size is 364, calculated using Yamane’s formula, and the sample was randomly selected using the Stratified random sampling method. Research Instrument Set 1 is a questionnaire on attitudes towards older adults. It has a consistency index of 0.87 and a reliability coefficient of 0.84. Research Instrument Set 2 is a program to promote positive attitudes. It has a consistency index of 0.82. The statistical methods used to analyze the data are Percentages, Mean, Standard deviation, Paired-Samples T-Test and Independent-Samples T-Test.
The results of the study showed that most students had a high level of positive attitudes towards the elderly. There were no significant difference in attitudes towards the elderly between the students who had the elderly living at home and those who did not. There was a significant difference in students’ attitudes towards the elderly before and after the attitudes-building activity (p < 0.5), with students having more positive attitudes after the activity.
