The Participation of Medical Personnel in the Quality of Infection Prevention and Control System of Health Promoting Hospital, Health Service Network in Phrasaeng District, Surat Thani Province

Abstract

This action research aimed to develop the quality of infection prevention and control work of sub-district health promotion hospitals, Phrasaeng District Health Service Network, Surat Thani Province. By applying Cohen and Uphoff’s contribution theory. The research was divided into 4 steps: 1) Planning 2) Acting 3) Observing and 4) Reflection. The sample group was the director of the sub-district health promotion hospitals and worker of 52 practitioners; selected specifically according to the specified qualification criteria. Using period of 16 weeks and consists of planning, exchange knowledge of problems and obstacles, educating, and evaluate the performance. The tools used include the personnel participatory management questionnaire was the reliability of the entire questionnaire using the Cronbach alpha coefficient reliability formula confidence value of 0.90 and assessment form of a starred sub-district health promoting hospital. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests.
The results revealed that the mean score of the participatory management of the sample before and after participatory management (M = 2.02, SD = .15; M = 4.01, SD = .54) was higher than the scores before the intervention. There was a statistically significant difference (p < .001) and there were 11 hospitals that passed the standard criteria of star health hospitals, increasing from 5 (38.5%) to 11 (84.6%). Therefore, the involvement of medical personnel in the operation will change the personnel’s behavior. Including the implementation of infection prevention and control in sub-district health promotion hospitals through standard quality criteria.
Recommendations: There is continuous encouragement, supervision, and monitoring of infection prevention and control in sub-district health promotion hospitals, so that the service recipient is safe from receiving medical services.
