Abstract

This correlational descriptive study examined the consumption of macronutrients and their association with the nutritional status of 210 elderly bedridden persons in the Nakhon Si Thammarat province that were calculated by using G*Power program. The research tools include 1) Barthel Activities of Daily Living: ADL and 2) the interview form created by the researcher’s literature review consist of 2.1) personal information 2.2) health conditions information (IOC = 0.80 - 0.89), 2.3) retroactive 24-hour dining record form and 2.4) Body mass index assessment form. Analyze data by using numbers, percentages, averages, standard deviations and calculate energy from nutrients obtained with INMUCAL Version 4.0. Analyze the correlation between the amount of macronutrients obtained and nutrition in bedridden elderly using the Fischer statistically significant test at .05.
The results showed that the sample had an average age of 80.70±10.55 years, an average bedtime of 4.10±5.67 years, consumed carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, averaged 450.11±246.07, 122.00±84.75, and 191.71±143.71 kcal/day, respectively. By an average obtaining total energy of 763.83±393.89 kcal/day. Most of them obtain energy from macronutrients less than they should have per day for Thai people. The amount of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats that the sample obtained is statistically significant in relation to nutrition (p<.05).
Therefore, community nurses practitioner and related parties should jointly assess the elderly bedridden people’s nutritional status and ensure that they get the proper amount of macronutrients.
