Keywords:
quality of life, preparedness, caregiver, older persons, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseaseAbstract
This predictive study aimed to study the power of predicting the relationship quality between family caregivers of older persons, preparedness of caregivers, amount of help from others, and direct caregiver’s strain toward the quality of life of the family caregivers of elderly people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The sample was 138 family caregivers by using the questionnaires: the mutuality between family caregivers of older persons, caregiver preparation, the amount of help from others, caregiver role strain from direct care, and caregivers’ quality of life (SF-36). The questionnaire has a reliability value of 0.91, 0.87, 0.79, 0.96 and 0.83 respectively. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis
The results of the study found that mutuality between family caregivers of older persons with COPD, preparedness of caregivers, and direct caregiver’s strain can statistical significant ( = 0.500, p < .05) predict the family caregivers’ quality of life caring for older persons with COPD. The study found that there should be an assessment in the care of family caregivers of older persons with COPD in both physical and mental readiness, mutuality between family caregivers of older persons, and direct caregiver’s strain to plan appropriate nursing care in preparing the family caregivers to be able to take care of older persons with COPD, to promote the quality of care and quality of life of family caregivers, and develop guidelines for nursing home, and develop continuous health service system at home to increase efficiency.
