The Study of Conflict Management Competencies of Professional Nurses, a Community Hospital, Surin Province

This mixed method research aimed to study conflict management competency and to explore the guidelines for the development of conflict management competency of professional nurses. The sample group was divided into 2 groups as follows: the group who answered and the group that participated in the group discussion. The quality inspection with the content validity index for a scale of 0.92 and the reliability for a scale of 0.87
The results of the research were as follows: 1) The overall conflict management competency of professional nurses was at a moderate level. From the group discussion, it was found that Conflict management competencies are classified according to conflict management processes as follows: (1) Conflict diagnosis by analyzing 7 causes of conflict: ineffective communication; Too many non-nurse tasks resource, Competition and competition at the event, Relationships unfair consideration of merit, Differences in personal attributes and Non-compliance with professional standards. (2) Definition of conflict problems by specifying types of conflicts in descending order as follows: interpersonal conflicts; conflict between groups and internal conflicts; (3) consider the consequences of conflicts by identifying positive and negative effects of conflict; and 4) formulate conflict resolution strategies. The most commonly used method is avoidance. and the least used method was the consent method and 2) the guidelines for the development of conflict management competency of professional nurses consisted of 3 dimensions: (1) context dimensions (2) Skills and Potential dimensions (3) psychological dimensions that emphasized motivate.
