Abstract

The purposes of this research were to determine 1) the emotional intelligence level and 2) the relationship between gender, age, grade, monthly expenses, stress, depression and emotional intelligence among the nursing students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Ratchaburi. The 382 subjects who met the specified criteria by purposive sampling were 1st- 4th year nursing students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Ratchaburi. The research instruments composed of 4 parts questionnaire; demographic data, stress assessment, depression assessment and emotional intelligence assessment. The content validity of the instruments were checked by 3 experts and the reliability tested by Cronbach Alpha Coefficient were .93, .90, and .95, respectively. The data were then analyzed for finding frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-Square test, and Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient.

The study results revealed as follows; 1) the emotional intelligence level of nursing students in all aspects was normal. (2) gender had no relationship with all three aspects of the emotional intelligence. As for age, intelligence and happiness aspects had statistically significantly correlated with emotional intelligence at the 0.5 level. As for grade; intelligence and happiness aspects had statistically significantly correlated with emotional intelligence at the 0.5 level. As for monthly expenses; happiness aspect had statistically significantly correlated with emotional intelligence at the .05 level. (3) Stress and depression had a negative relationship with the emotional intelligence (r = -0.627, -0.662, respectively).
