Perceived Self-efficacy in Caring for The Elderly with Dementia

Descriptive research to study self-perceived competence in caring for elderly individuals with dementia and factors affecting self-perceived competence in caring for elderly individuals with dementia. The sample group consisted of primary caregivers of elderly individuals with dementia in Surin Province, totaling 196 people, selected through purposive sampling based on specified criteria. Research instruments. 1) Personal information questionnaire 2) Questionnaire on self-perceived ability to care for elderly individuals with dementia. The quality of the instrument was assessed, yielding a content validity index of 0.96. The Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient is 0.92. Analyze the data using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression.
Research findings found that the sample group has a high level of perceived competence in caring for elderly individuals with dementia, with the highest average being as having empathy and assisting families in adapting to the burden of caring for elderly individuals with dementia (mean = 4.17, S.D = 0.73). And it was found that the experience of caregiver training and the age of the caregiver can jointly predict the self-efficacy in caring for the elderly with dementia at a rate of 31.1 (R2 = .311, F = 9.099, p p < .05). In conclusion, the experience of caregiver training is an important factor that affects the self-efficacy in caring for the elderly with dementia.
