Effect of Competency Development Health Volunteers for Prevention Hypertension in Tumbon Kham Yai Ubonratchathani Province

Abstract

This research was a quasi-experimental study pretest-posttest one group design to examine the effect of competency development of health volunteers by educating and practicing skills for prevention Hypertension in Tumbon Kham Yai Ubonratchathani Province. The subjects were 35 health volunteers in Tumbon Kham Yai Ubonratchathani Province. The tools used in the research consisted of collect information included: personal data questionnaire, the knowledge evaluation questionnaire and evaluation for hypertension screening skill, Hypertension handbook and a screening form for the risk of hypertension. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, compared average scores on knowledge about hypertension and the mean scores on screening skill for hypertension before and after the experiment by using pair t-test statistic.

The result of this study found that, the mean knowledge score post experimental was significantly higher than the pre experimental and the mean score on screening skill for hypertension was higher than the pre experimental p < .05 It is recommended that the development competency of health volunteers should be future used as guidance for screening and prevention hypertension, Furthermore, applying the development competency in caring for patients with other chronic diseases in order to promote health and prevent chronic disease is also suggested.
