Abstract

This survey research was aimed at study the relationships between gender, age, self- dependent, and body mass index with dementia of the elderly, who had dementia at Pang Hin Phon Subdistrict, Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province. There were 109 purposive sampling. The measurement was consisting of personal data relating to participated in the study for assessing the biodata that related to dementia and were screening with the Thai Mental State Examination (TMSE). The screening test covering six dimensions; orientation, registration, attention, calculation, language and recall. The results of data analysis had revealed that: 1) Twenty-one male (19.27%) and forty-one female (37.61%) had dementia. 2) The mean and standard deviation of the sample, as a whole, and classified by the 6 aspects of dementia were not statistical difference significantly at 0.05 level. 3) Age had relationship with dementia was statistical difference significantly at 0.05 level, but gender, self-dependent, and the body mass index had no relationship with dementia statistical difference significantly at 0.05 level.
