The Effect of Teaching and Learning Management in Nursing Care of Persons with Mental Health Problems Course Based on Experiential Learning Theory and Scaffolding Principle to Psychiatric Nursing Practice Competency of Nursing Students

Abstract

This research is a pre-experimental research. The one group pretest-posttest design. The purpose was to study the effect of instructional management in mental health and psychiatric nursing practice aaccording to the theory of experiential learning and supplementary concepts for learning on operational performance psychiatric nurses of nursing students. Samples were 51 of 3rd year nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Saraburi. Research instrument used to collect data consisted of personal data and performance measurement tool for psychiatric nursing practice. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and t-test.

The result revealed that psychiatric nursing practice competency before and after participated in instructional management in mental health and psychiatric nursing practice according to the theory of experiential learning and supplementary concepts for learning was significantly different at .01. The posttest score of the psychiatric nursing practice competency of 3rd year nursing students was higher than the pretest ones. Suggestion: The instructional management on experiential learning theory and scaffolding principle effected to increase performance psychiatric nurses of nursing students.
